Wolves boss McCarthy 'delighted' with Premier League win
Aug 19 2009 by Bill Howell, Birmingham Mail
MICK McCarthy could not hide his delight after nailing his first top-flight victory in three and a half years at Wigan.
Wolves’ 1-0 success at Wigan was their first on the road in the top flight since January 1984 when the Apple Macintosh computer was introduced and Michael Jackson’s hair caught fire during a Pepsi commercial.
“It feels pretty good at the minute. Is it a relief? I don’t know. It’s pleasing,” McCarthy said.
“This is not about learning things, but it has proved they can play, score and win in the Premier League because the longer it goes (without winning), it’s difficult and you start doubting whether you can play.
“So maybe one or two of those doubts have been answered.”
The win was Wolves’ first away in the top division since they won by a single goal at Liverpool.
“It’s probably longer for me!”, joked McCarthy whose last win at Sunderland at this level was in January 2006 at Albion.
