Wolves boss McCarthy 'delighted' with Premier League win

“I seem to remember a win at Middlesbrough – although I should remember them all, because we didn’t get many!”

Wolves were full value for their win and McCarthy was clearly pleased with the performance.

“I’m delighted, especially coming on the back of a defeat on Saturday when we played well and we all took the positives out of it,” he said.

“I thought we played very well. We had good chances in the first half and then it was a mature performance, because although we were hardly hanging on, we had to defend our lead for a long time and we still created chances.”

McCarthy says every one of his players has now proved they are worthy to be considered top-flight stars.

“If we were learning about anything, it was about ourselves and we’ve learned more about ourselves than anyone else,” he said.

“I asked them yesterday (Monday) whether they thought they could all play in the Premier League and Karl Henry said: ‘Yes’.

“That’s a great answer, but I asked him how he knew and he didn’t know.

“He’d never played there but he’s confirmed to me as everyone else has that he can actually play in the Premier League.”

Wolves dictated play from the start with Andy Keogh hitting a post before he scored the only goal.
