Wolves: Mick McCarthy sympathises with Fulham boss

Mick McCarthy

MICK McCarthy has sympathised with Roy Hodgson’s decision to leave nine players out of his team in Europe tonight.

But any hopes he had of seeing CSKA Sofia do Wolves a major favour against Fulham in Bulgaria have been dented by Hodgson’s team selection.

Hodgson saw his side struggle after their first Europa League venture in Russia when they were comfortably beaten at Villa three days later.

Wolves could have been handed a welcome initiative due to the travelling, but of the Fulham side that started against Everton last weekend only John Paintsil and David Stockdale are likely to play tonight.

“I will tell you on Monday (if the extra game helps),” joked McCarthy. “Any little help we can get we will take.

“I think if you spoke to guys who are in Europe, Alex Ferguson etc, they will tell you it’s difficult to come back and to play.
