Expect a roller-coaster ride this season, says Wolves' Christophe Berra

Christophe Berra

CHRISTOPHE Berra has admitted that a roller-coaster ride lies in store for Wolves this season, with the team set to take their fight for survival right to the very end of the season.

The Scotland defender is adamant that the club have done themselves justice in the eight games so far this campaign.

And despite the shock defeat at home to Portsmouth he says Wolves have only played badly once this season – when they were beaten 3-1 at Blackburn.

“There are going to be good and hard times ahead,” Berra said.

“We never came up from the Championship thinking it was going to be easy.

“We knew when we came up we would be one of the favourites to go down.

“It is going to go right to the death. It’s only eight games. We could go on a run and win three or four in a row. Football is a crazy game.”

Berra insists Wolves did not underestimate the threat of Portsmouth before Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Molineux.

Pompey had lost their opening seven Premier League games of the season, but secured the points thanks to Hassan Yebda’s first-half effort.

Wolves were denied a penalty and also had late chances to score an equaliser, but were unable to prevent a third successive loss in all competitions.

Berra says there was no complacency within the squad ahead of the game and is not concerned by Wolves’ position of 16th in the table.

“I wasn’t surprised how good they were,” said Berra. “They are not in the Premier League for nothing. They’ve got quality players. We didn’t expect anything less from them.

“It’s not like we came here thinking: ‘this is going to be an easy game’.

“That is so far from the truth. It just never happened for us.’’
