Wolves star convinced they can end Aston Villa run
CHRISTOPHE Berra today backed Wolves’ defence to stand up strong to Villa’s pace-powered unit in the big derby on Saturday.
Villa will arrive at Molineux fuelled by an array of attacking options which are functioning so well to the satisfaction of manager Martin O’Neill that England’s Emile Heskey cannot get a start.
But encouraged by a resilient display in the 1-1 draw at Everton last weekend, and backed by most in a near-full house at Molineux, Berra reckons Wolves can spring a surprise and bag only their second home win of the season.
“Villa will be a tough test,” said Berra. “It’s a big local derby and Villa are a quality team who finished sixth in the table last season.
“They have a lot of good and exciting players and pacy players but it’s a derby and anything can happen, particularly with us being at home.
“Although we have only one won game at home so far and have had a couple of disappointing results, overall I think performances have been good and at times we’ve been unlucky. If we can just keep producing the same level of performance and workrate I am sure we can get a result.
“The atmosphere is going to be red-hot. Every game in this league is big but when you come up against your local rivals from a few miles down the road there is always something extra.
