Matt Jarvis: Wolves will learn lessons from Arsenal and Chelsea defeats
Nov 28 2009 by Bill Howell, Birmingham Mail
MATT Jarvis admits Wolves were handed a harsh lesson at Chelsea, but says they head into tomorrow’s noon showdown with Blues on a high.
The former Gillingham winger was a rare shining light last weekend but refused to be downbeat after the 4-0 loss which came on the back of the home defeat to Arsenal.
“We’ve lost the last two games but you do have to take whatever positives you can,” he said.
“In the first half-hour of the Arsenal game the lads were on top and did well but then we let in goals.
“Even though it was only five minutes we started well against Chelsea before going behind and then saw the sort of quality you face at this level. Chelsea were fantastic on the day and their passing and movement was different class.
“They took their chances early on and just knocked us back from the start.
“We did have some good chances ourselves but I suppose it showed us the sort of levels we have to try to aspire to. Hopefully we can use the game as a learning curve. Now the Arsenal and Chelsea games have gone we’re looking forward to two home games against Birmingham and Bolton.”
Jarvis was involved in plenty of incidents last weekend, squaring the ball for David Edwards who almost got a touch, taking the ball around John Terry before firing narrowly and putting over a perfect delivery for Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
Late on he also got to the byline but saw Terry scamper back to clear.
“I was pleased with the cross I put in for Sylvan’s chance but then Cech makes an amazing save,” he recalled. “That’s one of the reasons why they are top of the league and one of the reasons why he’s been among the best keepers in the world.”
