Wolves boss says Birmingham City defeat was low point of his season
Mick McCarthy is backing Wolves to deliver goals as they look to bounce back from the low point of the season against fellow strugglers Bolton at Molineux this weekend.
Wolves are four points adrift of safety after a lacklustre performance in the 1-0 home defeat by Birmingham means they have gone eight games without a win.
They have scored just 12 times in 14 Barclays Premier League games, with three of those coming from central defender Jody Craddock.
But McCarthy is confident the situation can be turned around.
He said: "I know what we have to do, beat Bolton. You'd be amazed by how a victory against Bolton would lift this place, the fans, the club, everybody.
"My message is 'Let's be positive about the game on Saturday'. We can't do anything about Birmingham, or anything else.
"Despite a really lacklustre performance in the first half against Birmingham, we ended up with three headed chances.
"We were 1-0 up at Everton, they got one chance and scored. That's what we have to do. We have to convert our chances.
"I thought up until the Arsenal and Chelsea games we always looked a threat and I thought we'd score goals.
"I take those two games out of it, and Birmingham when we were poor. It's about us turning it around. There's no doubt they're good players."
McCarthy is aware victory over Bolton will do wonders for the confidence of his players.
He said: "I'm not suggesting for one minute that they're lacking confidence, but it's amazing how it floods back, or it grows.
"It might be lying dormant somewhere but it's certainly there when you get a result from somewhere.
"If we beat Bolton there will be a different feel about the place Monday morning, and that's what we have to look forward to.
"Birmingham was our low point of the season because of our performance and the result. The result of course is paramount, but the performance was poor as well.
"We've all got a role to play in that, me and the players, but there are no fingers being pointed at anybody from us. It's a matter of redressing the balance this weekend."
