Pressure is on to perform, admits Wolves defender Christophe Berra

CHRISTOPHE Berra has promised not to take his foot off the gas as Wolves bid to shore up their creaking defence.

The Scotland international has performed to a high standard throughout the season but it is now 12 league games since Wolves recorded a clean sheet.

Berra believes the presence of the likes of Michael Mancienne, who started at full-back against Blues but who began the season alongside the Scot in central defence, are keeping everyone on their toes.

“I’ve been pleased with my own performances and feel I’ve been reasonably consistent which is important for a defender,” the former Hearts player said.

“But I want to keep improving and will keep working hard because if I take my foot off the pedal I could be out of the team given there are a lot of players trying to get in.

“Hopefully I’m in again against Bolton but that’s down to the manager,” he said.

Berra has enjoyed a healthy relationship with the Molineux faithful since his move south of the border. He admits they were within their rights to voice their disapproval against Blues.

“The fans were disappointed with the Birmingham game and they had a right to be because they pay good money to come and watch,” he said.

“They would have expected us to put a performance in but it didn’t happen.

“The support has been great so far this season and hopefully they’ll come out in numbers again against Bolton and get right behind us which always makes a big difference.”
