Wolves: Kightly apology to fans

Michael Kightly

MICHAEL Kightly has apologised to fans and vowed to work every day through the summer to be fit for next season.

Wolves’ golden boy made only nine league games, starting three, before injury struck against Blues in November.

Kightly says he is “buzzing” after the club achieved survival and has vowed to make an impact next year.

“Everyone has worked really hard and the club deserve to have stayed up,’’ he said.

“I’ve had a little taste of it earlier in the season but I think the only thing I’ve really done is win a penalty against Villa. That’s the only contribution I’ve made which is disappointing.

“I’m gutted and want to apologise to everyone at the club and every single fan for that. Hopefully I can prove my worth next year.

“It’s definitely given me a little taste and made me more hungry, if I could have got any more hungry than I actually am. I just need to get fit.

“I’ve struggled this season mentally as well as physically and it’s important not just for me to be playing but for my career to get back fit.

“Surviving has certainly taken a weight off my shoulders and I thank all the boys for that and all the staff.

“I’m still working on recovering from the injury and have got a good few months now to get things right. I’ll be in every day over the summer trying hard to do that.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Foley says Wolves must win at Portsmouth tomorrow.

“There will certainly be no easing up,” he said.

“Our aim is to finish above Bolton, who are one place above us. We want to finish at the top of that group. You always want to finish as high as you can and to finish 14th in the table would look good.

“That would bring an even bigger buzz about the place.

“We’ll never stop giving 100 per cent and these two games will be no exception. Portsmouth have been unlucky with their whole situation this season. It’s their last home game and they’ve got a cup final to look forward to.

“We’re taking a sell-out following. It’s going to be a big game but hopefully one we can get a result.

‘‘We want to finish on a high for our own fans. The club is nothing without them.

“They’ve come out in force everywhere we’ve been this season. Not many clubs have that these days.’’
