Wolves rule out transfer fee for Michael Mancienne

Meanwhile, defender Ronald Zubar has all but been ruled out of Saturday’s opener to Stoke with a groin injury.

“Zubar is in having treatment. He’s not played that many games so he is a doubt for Saturday,” explained McCarthy.

But Irish international Kevin Doyle should play against Argentina tomorrow after recovering from a bruised calf.

“Doyle has had a scan and he’s not trained,” said McCarthy.

“It is just a kick he’s just had a bleed in it and he should be okay to play some part in the game.

“It won’t do him any harm to have some part in the game. He wants to play – he’s an international and I understand that.

“If he is okay, and I am sure he will be, if he gets 45 minutes semi-competetive football hopefully he will be alright for Saturday.

“It was a sore calf. He’s alright.”

Sam Vokes has undergone a scan on his injured hamstring and could return from his loan at Bristol City.

The Welsh international played just 13 minutes on his debut in the 3-0 home defeat to Millwall before breaking down.

Manager Steve Coppell said: “Sam needs to go and have a scan today. He’s still very sore and will be out for a while.

“If he’s going to be missing for some time then it’s likely he’ll go back to Wolves to receive treatment. If it is not so bad then he will probably remain here.”
