Mick McCarthy offers advice to Wolves winger after England snub

MICK McCarthy has told Matt Jarvis not to chase the ‘golden nugget’ and to put his England frustrations to one side.
Despite feverish weekend speculation, the 24-year-old missed out on a call to face France having impressed Fabio Capello against Bolton – the fifth time the Italian had watched him this season.
“I felt a little sad for him. I don’t know where all the hype came from – whether it came from here or from England – whether he was going to be picked,” the boss said.
“Nobody from England had contacted me and said ‘By the way he is going to be in the team.’ I think the hype just ran away.”
McCarthy said hot competition counted against Jarvis: “They’ve got Stewart Downing, Ashley Young, Adam Johnson and Theo Walcott. So he’s competing against some bloody good players.
“Selfishly, it suits me fine. I wanted him to be in the squad for him, because he deserves his chance.
“But in view of us going to Blackpool on Saturday, it wouldn’t do us any good if he had another 40, 50 or 60 minutes tomorrow night. He couldn’t have played any better for us on Saturday – he created loads, and they know who he is.
