Wolves: Steve Morgan to build lasting legacy

Steve Morgan

STEVE Morgan says Wolves will rid themselves of their ‘dogfight’ tag.

The owner says he would never have sanctioned a Molineux rebuild if he wasn’t convinced Mick McCarthy’s side will soon no longer be scrapping down near the bottom of the Premier League.

The first stage of the £40 million stadium redevelopment takes place in May with the £16 million rebuild of the Stan Cullis Stand.

Morgan says Wolves will become a permanent feature in the top flight.

“It’s more than a dream, I think it is a realistic target.

“That’s what we’re aiming for and that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing,” he said.

“That is why we are redeveloping the ground.

“If I didn’t think Wolves were going to be a permanent member of the Premiership, and that we were going to improve from being a dogfight in relegation, then we shouldn’t be doing it.

“Let’s take the worst (scenario) – and I don’t even want to think this way – but say we are relegated this year. We’ve got to get back up. We just have to get back up, it’s as simple as that.

“We can punch above our weight, and the more we do the more we can fill the stadium, the more income we will get and the more weight we will put on, if you like. In the medium term, that’s where we’re aiming to be.”
