MICK McCarthy believes Matt Jarvis’s England call-up won’t go to the winger’s head and will make him a better player.
And he says it will inspire Karl Henry to break into Fabio Capello’s fold after his recent standby call.
“It’s fabulous recognition for Jarvo and for the club,’’ said McCarthy.
“It’s fantastic and just reward for all the hard work he puts into his game.
“He really is a top bloke. He’s got his feet on the ground, works hard, is very talented and is a lovely guy.
“We are all immensely proud of him getting in. It is great.
“He has belief in his ability, he can play, he has caused problems for every full-back he has played against either on the right or the left.
“You don’t have to be arrogant or brash, overbearing or obnoxious to be a good footballer or play for England.
“He will remain the same, I’m sure he will, but I hope he doesn’t remain the same. I hope he gets better by it.
“His personality will remain the same but it will improve him being there.
“I hope it has a positive affect straight away. I know it will because I remember it myself when I started training with Liam Brady and Frank Stapleton, Mark Lawrenson and all those guys.
