WOLVES skipper Karl Henry has stressed the importance of keeping the club’s best players at Molineux.
The all-action midfielder, who despite Sunday’s loss to Blackburn led his side to Premier League safety, yesterday warned the Old Gold hierarchy they must not be tempted to cash in on the club’s stars.
Henry is particularly keen for England international Matt Jarvis, whose breakthrough season has seen him linked with Villa and Liverpool, to remain in the Black Country.
Jarvis was last week named Wolves’ players’ and supporters’ player of the year and made his international debut against Ghana in March.
And his good form throughout has made him a potential target for the top flight big guns – but Henry insists he must not be allowed to leave.
“It’s instrumental to this club to keep players like Matt Jarvis,” the 28-year-old said.
“Since I’ve been here this club have not been in the habit of selling their best players. We are not a feeder club for anyone.
“We are a club with ambition and the chairman (Steve Morgan) has come in and improved the stadium and has got big ideas.
“He’ll be looking to buy more players like Matt Jarvis rather than sell them.
“It’s imperative we keep players like Matt Jarvis and our other top stars and I think we will,” he said.
Henry was speaking less than 24 hours after one of the most nerve-racking afternoons in his career.
Having fallen 3-0 down to Rovers in the first half Mick McCarthy’s men looked on their way down to the Championship.
But goals from Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt put the onus on Blues to win at Spurs – something they couldn’t do.
