Wolves: Mick McCarthy takes heart from Tottenham Hotspur defeat

MICK McCarthy sat his players through a TV re-run of their ten-minute collapse against Spurs and says he expected a video nasty.

But what he got was an all-action Hollywood-esque blockbuster that proved to him how far his side have progressed.

Spurs scored two goals in quick succession past the hour, which sent Wolves tumbling to their first defeat of the season.

“We watched that ten minutes and I wasn’t going to watch it, I didn’t want to watch it again as we’d been slapped but Terry Connor said he was going to watch it because he didn’t think it reflected the whole game,’’ said the manager.

“So I thought: ‘Tell you what, I’ll watch it – and he was dead right.

“The players watched with us. It was for me to make my point that we all came off feeling probably worse about the performance than we should have done.

“We were different class on Saturday.

“First half, different class – second half, still the better side and the game is going nowhere and in the blink of an eye, because someone does a bit of brilliance, they are 1-0 up and it changes it. There was no glaring error from us.

“There were little things that we could perhaps have done better and they picked us off.

“It was a great goal by them.
