Wolves: Mick McCarthy on his January transfer plans

MICK McCarthy says he will look to bolster Wolves in the January window.

A move for free agent James McFadden fell through when the Scot moved to Saturday’s opponents Everton.

McCarthy has room to manoeuvre as he only named a 24-man Premier League squad in September.

“We’ll be looking in January definitely,” the Wolves boss said.

“We’ll be looking to do something. Myself and Jez (Moxey) and Steve (Morgan) will sit down and have a discussion about that.

“Me and Dave (Bowman, chief scout) and Taff (Ian Evans, scout) and Terry (Connor, assistant manager) are always talking about it.

“If we can get anybody it would be important to freshen the squad up.”

Wolves look light on the striking front with Steven Fletcher and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake injured for large parts of the season.

“It’s the usual stock answer: if there are players around who we can get and they can do something that can improve us as a squad or as a team then we’ll try and do it,” McCarthy added.

But, unsurprisingly, he is giving little away as to his actual targets but admits it takes time for foreign players to adapt to a Premier League season that is already in full flow.

He recently handed trials to a number of Cork City players, including striker Graham Cummins. Any permanent moves for those players look some way off with the net appearing now to centre on the English market.
