Wolves: Changing manager is NOT the answer - Roger Johnson

CAPTAIN Roger Johnson has backed Mick McCarthy to get Wolves out of their mess and stressed the whole team are fully behind the manager.

Boos rang out around Molineux on Tuesday night as the home support vented their frustrations at the 19th-placed side, who were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool.

Some sections of the crowd were also heard calling for the manager’s head after Wolves slipped to a 13th league defeat of the season.

But Johnson believes McCarthy is the man to turn things around and win a third successive survival battle.

“Changing the manager isn’t going to change what the players do on the pitch,” he said.

“Unfortunately, that’s what it’s like in football and it’s the manager’s head on the chopping block.

“For me and all the lads, the manager needs to stay. We respect him massively.

“He’s the man to get us out of it, he’s done it before and he’ll do it again.

‘‘You can’t really get a better man for the job.”

Anger on the terraces has been boiling for weeks as Wolves’ winless run stretched to 11 games on Tuesday.

Johnson insists it is the players who should take responsibility, though, and is determined to put things right when they visit QPR on Saturday.

“We let ourselves down on Tuesday – the players on the pitch are the ones who let the staff and the fans down,” he added.
