Wolves: Steve Daley has sympathy for Mick McCarthy

Mick McCarthy

STEVE Daley says Wolves must stick with Mick McCarthy because the only people who could replace him are now at clubs having spent money in the window.

The former Molineux favourite said: “There’s a lot of people calling for Mick’s head and I’ve got a great deal of sympathy with him because things were happening on Tuesday night (against Liverpool) that were out of his control.

“If you do get rid of Mick who are you going to get in? Available prior to the transfer window was Martin O’Neill and Mark Hughes – both now employed and in the transfer window both went and bought people. If there was no money available at Wolves they wouldn’t have come.

“We are now going to QPR, who’ve just bought three or four players, and those players will lift the existing players, they’re going to lift the crowd and it’s going to be a massive, massive game.”

Daley says Sebastien Bassong can lift the team at Loftus Road. “I am surprised Tottenham let him go. Hopefully he’ll come in and take command of that back four and we can stop conceding.

“I don’t think the game has changed that much since I played and there was no closing down (against Liverpool). That is not Mick’s fault, that is somebody taking responsibility.”
