We're stamping out sloppy service
ONE of the fastest growing companies in the UK, Homeserve was born and bred in the West Midlands.
The company began life back in the early 1990s as part of South Staffordshire Water when the first plumbing and drainage home insurance policies were sold under the name of 'Home Service Scheme'.
In 2004, the water supply business was demerged and the company changed its name to HomeServe plc.
Its Emergency Repairs service was launched two year later and the company now carries out emergency call out and insured repair work.
However, any householder will be able to use the new service, whether they are an insurance policy holder or not.
Steve Herbert, operations director for Homeserve, says it was a natural decision to pilot the service in Birmingham.
He says: "We are a business that is heavily involved in the local community and have always had great support in the area. The West Midlands is where we were born 14 years ago and where we have over 1,500 employees.
"We also have a large network of directly employed tradesmen local to the area and a large pool of tried and tested local subcontractors who meet our high standards.
"We have undertaken some research in the West Midlands and found that people are fed up with waiting in for tradesmen who don't turn up when they say they will and tradesmen who scratch their chin before increasing the price mid job.
"We're stamping this out and are pledging to lift standards."
