Shopping: Getting a flaming hot celebrity look

Emma McKinney

IT’S alleged blondes have more fun. But if the latest celebrity trend is anything to go by, it’s redheads who are getting the most out of life.

Just two per cent of the population is said to be made up of natural flame-haired folk, including Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts, model Lily Cole, designer Stella McCartney and Hollywood actresses Julia Roberts and Isla Fisher.

But many celebrities are hitting the bottle in a bid to get what is turning into one of the hottest looks of the season, including TV singing coach Carrie Fisher, and crooners Rihanna, Charlotte Church, and Christina Aguilera.

Actresses Scarlett Johansson and Eva Longoria Parker have also recently gone red, as well as pop star Cheryl Cole, who admitted her mahogany locks were a result of a home dye kit.

So if it’s good enough for some of the world’s best known women then it’s good enough for me.

But having had several mishaps with the dye bottle myself, I wasn’t feeling quite as confident as Cheryl and decided against a DIY job.

A wise move, according to Lisa Shepherd, who has become known as the Hair Colour Doctor after clinching 19 industry gongs in the last two decades, including British Hairdresser of the Year 2005.

Resident hair colour expert on Channel Four TV show 10 Years Younger, Lisa owns four salons, including one in her home town of Kidderminster, as well as others in Sutton Coldfield and London.

It was at her salon in Birmingham city centre’s Temple Row West that I made the brave move to go from brunette (with blond highlights) to bold burgundy.
