Beauty: Pucker up

Make-up artist Jamie Coombes creates luscious lips on June Mulloy.

EVER wondered how to achieve the perfect pout?

Dior international make-up artist Jamie Coombes dropped into Birmingham’s Selfridges store to promote the company’s new Dior Addict lipstick which has just hit counters with 44 shades.

So we asked him to offer some top tips for luscious lips:

* When choosing colours it is hard to go wrong with warm colours such as coral pinks and orangey reds that will work with most complexions.

* If you are nervous of too bold a shade, apply it lightly as a sheen. As your confidence grows, build up the colour for maximum impact.

* Ask for advice from the staff at counter. They know the product and can guide you through picking colours and textures.

* When choosing texture think about the purpose – mattes tend to be longer lasting while creams are for bold glamour.

* Lipsticks are an accessory. When you buy a dress you then accessories the shoes, jewellery and handbag. So accessorise the lipstick as well. Some women prefer matching nails and lips, others prefer to differ. Either way, see lipstick as an extension of your look.

* Go for simplicity in make-up. The basics are foundation, blusher, mascara and lipstick.

* When applying lipstick experiment with your preferences. For a sheen simply apply lightly from the lipstick. For a bolder look use a lip liner and build up colour with a brush.

* Lip liner is a finishing touch – go for a matching shade or neutral.

* Have fun with lipstick and experiment with colours and depth of colour.

* Make the most of this summer’s hot colours for full-on glamour.
