LOVE is in the air this week, with Valentine’s Day on Saturday, and for one elephant at West Midland Safari Park, the day can’t come quick enough.
Five, a 17-year-old African elephant, adores her keeper Lawrence Bates and can regularly be seen giving him a kiss and a cuddle.
West Midland Safari Park has three African elephants – two females, Five and Latabe, and one male called Jack. All three elephants were orphaned by the shooting of their mothers at a few days old and were hand-reared in a private elephant orphanage near Pretoria, South Africa until they were big enough to be rehomed. West Midland Safari & Leisure Park fully reopens on February 14 for the 2009 season. Details from www.wmsp.co.uk or by telephone 01299 402114.
