Unemployed become big hitters for day

UNEMPLOYED people will become big hitters for the day when a cricket tournament is staged in Birmingham.

The sport is being used by employment experts to break through boundaries and build community links in the city.

Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) has organised the indoor cricket tournament on Saturday in partnership with Aston Pride New Deal for Communities.

Malcolm Buchanan, PPDG’s team leader for the Aston Pride initiative, has called on local unemployed men and women to enter teams of six players for the free event which runs, from 12 noon to 4pm. The action will take place at the Aston Arena, Aston Hall Road.

To register a team call Malcolm on 0121 359 3024 or visit PPDG’s Newtown Advancement Centre, Newtown shopping centre, and complete an application form. Teams need a minimum of six players. Matches will consist of 12 overs per team. Each match will be umpired by Pertemps Coachright coaches.
