Schoolchildren learn about Indian culture

Holy Cross assistant head teacher Ian Gallagher, head teacher Jackie Deasy and deputy head John Hall with some of the children in Indian dress

CHILDREN and staff at Holy Cross Catholic Primary in Walmley have enjoyed an exciting week finding out about Indian culture.

The week saw them taking part in Bollywood dancing, tasting Indian cuisine, taking part in art, and cooking, researching about the Taj Mahal, plus traditions and religions, as well some classes reading Indian stories and in Reception an imaginary trip to India!

They ended the week with the whole school dressed either in Indian style clothes or symbols that are associated with India. Kitchen staff also took part too, providing a lovely lamb curry, rice and naan breads on their menu for the week.

At the school's weekly celebration assembly each class shared their activities and what they had been learning.

Head Teacher Jackie Deasy was delighted with the week and thanked the children and staff for "working hard, being so enthusiastic, enabling everyone to have such an interesting week, thoroughly enjoying themselves - having fun whilst learning!"
