Family fun at festival of reading

BIRMINGHAM Young Readers' Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary this year until May 31.

Highlights include:

* The Lord Mayor's Book Bash at Cannon Hill Park on May 25 which features children's writers and activities for children such as puppet shows, live poetry and the chance to join Kipper's birthday party.

* A Family Fun Day at Aston Library on May 28 with Caribbean storyteller Maggie Harris, craft workshops and face painting.

* A Family Fun Day at West Heath Library with storytellers Annamation on May 28.

* A talk by poet Stewart Henderson to children at Walmey Library and Mere Green Library on May 29.

* A talk by prize-winning writer Melvin Burgess at Centre for the Child in Central Library and Sutton Coldfield Children's Library on May 30. Recommended for youngsters aged 12 and above.

* A craft and illustration workshop with Fiona Dunbar plus poetry from Dreadlockalien at a Family Fun Day at Kings Heath Library on May 31.

* All the adventures of Harry Potter fit into an hour with Potted Potter at the Library Theatre at Central Library on May 31.
