Graduates are getting best start
It’s hard work but I really love it
Naomi Westwood was in the final year of her joint French and Spanish honours degree at the University of Manchester when she took up Teach First’s offer last year.
The 23-year-old, who lives in Moseley, said: “I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do, and had thought about translating or going off travelling.
“I wasn’t really sure whether teaching was something I wanted to do long-term, but this was a way of finding out if I liked it and if it was me without making a decision.
“I came here for a week in July as part of my training and then started teaching last September.
“It’s hard work, and I have had many sleepless nights preparing for the next day. But I love it and it’s a decision I don’t regret making. I am still in my first year but I definitely want to stay in teaching. It’s nice there are people here who have been through the programme and are now in their second year.”
