Shakti helps women fulfil their dreams

‘IMAGINE a woman who authors her own life.’ That is the motto of the Shakti Women, a Birmingham-based group for business and professional women, led by Siobhan Harper-Nunes.
Shakti has been meeting for two years – on Saturdays from 10am to 12pm at Edgbaston Reservoir for a keep fit session and on Tuesdays from 6-9pm at Edmund’s Wine Bar, 110 Edmund Street, Birmingham B3 2ES.
The meetings are never ‘typical’. You can find yourself doing anything from a laughter therapy class to talking about debt management, marketing or the menopause. And there are occasional celebration events such as a luxury trip to Ascot Ladies’ day.
Siobhan has clear plans for the future.
“Shakti means power, creativity, energy,” she says. “Shakti Women was established to create a safe space for women to reconnect with the person they were meant to be. I want every woman to understand the benefits of continuous personal development to career or business.
“So many of us lose our way as we juggle our many roles. I want women to remember their purpose and dreams and to grasp the tools to put them firmly back into the driver’s seat.”
And she has ambitious plans for Shakti.
“We dream of having our own premises which would be our Shakti Ghar or powerhouse,” Siobhan says. “We want more monthly training events to compliment the taster sessions we run and we want to grow our business club. Not everyone can attend our weekly sessions so we also are developing a regional network of women who can talk online.”
Shakti has plenty of support. Marcia Reid, aged 45, adds: “Being part of the group made me realise my dreams could become a reality. My life has been transformed.”
