Children perform at Symphony Hall

THIS Friday the hard work of the Ex Cathedral education project will reach fruition with a concert featuring more than 600 children from schools across the country at Birmingham Symphony Hall.

The children, from more than 20 schools, will be performing the playground songs they have been learning and developing and will share the stage with acclaimed British soprano Carolyn Sampson, percussion quartet BackBeat and Ex Cathedra choir. Local schools taking part include Hall Green Junior and Ladywood's Barford Primary, Nelson Primary, St Patrick's RC School and Victoria Special School where have spent the last few months working on their playground songs. They will also be joined by around 30 children from schools across Sandwell who took part in the project last year.

Rebecca says: "We have done educational showcase concerts for the past four years, but this is the first year we have been able to do something on this scale thanks to the government funding involved in Sing Up.

"It is a real opportunity for the children to showcase their work and for their friends, family and the general public to see the results."

The showcase takes place this Friday, April 4 at 6pm.

Tickets are free and are available from Symphony Hall Box Office on 0121 780 3333. For more information contact education@ex-cathedra.org
