Many conceive naturally after treatment

DR GILLIAN Lockwood, medical director of Aldridge-based Midland Fertility Services, says Lisa is not alone in having a natural birth following an IVF baby when the cause of infertility was endometriosis.

"There is plausible evidence that pregnancy can 'cure' or at least temporarily alleviate endometriosis, even though the condition can make it very difficult to conceive in the first place," she says.

"MFS has many cases of helping women with endometriosis to conceive after years of endometriosis-related infertility who then go on to conceive naturally in the year or two after their treatment or delivery.

"This may be because the fertility drugs help to kick-start the reproductive system or because the endometriosis has been suppressed, even temporarily, by the fertility drugs or pregnancy."
