Government cash injection

EDUCATION experts are waking up to the advantages of dance in the classroom and this spring committed an additional £5.5 million to promoting dance in schools.

Funded by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, the Department of Children, Schools and Families and Arts Council England, the initiative follows a year-long review of youth dance.

For the first time, the government will formulate a national youth dance strategy under the umbrella of Youth Dance England. Aiming to co-ordinate activities in schools, the scheme is part of a nationwide strategy to encourage children to become more active.
