National honour for golf ace Maxwell

Priory School sports scholar Maxwell Martin has been selected to play golf for the under 16 England team.

This rounds off a fantastic year for the youngster from Bournville, who has won the European Junior Golf Championship and the Independent Schools Under 12 Championship.

Under its sports scholarship scheme, Priory is committed to supporting Maxwell through his academic studies whilst ensuring he receives the professional coaching he requires to pursue his sporting talent. The school offers scholarships to boys and girls entering Year 7 who excel in academic studies, the arts and sport, together with a supported places scheme to enable pupils from families on low incomes to attend the school and benefit from a Priory education.

Maxwell said: “All the teachers support me and drive me to do my very best. If I have a tournament coming up they always encourage me and that inspires me to do even better.”

Headmaster Jonathan Cramb said: “We are very proud of Max’s accomplishments. His dedication has certainly paid off this year with these truly wonderful results.”

This is a special year for Priory School as it celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Cornelia Connelly, founder of the Sisters of the Holy Child, Jesus, who first opened the school in Edgbaston in 1936.

Last year saw a string of successes on the sports field, whilst the school was also awarded an Artsmark Silver Award by Arts Council England for its excellence in arts education.
