CHINAL JETHWA

Pragini Ltd, 232A Percy Road, Sparkhill. 0121 777 7800.

CHINAL Jethwa's family food business was devastated by last summer's flooding.

But instead of going under, Pragini Ltd ought its way back from the brink and is hoping to be bigger than before.

The firm has been making fresh Indian snacks using traditional family recipes since 1994 at their Sparkhill premises.

They specialise in Gujarati popadums, as well as the better known Madras variety which are served in most restaurants, in a range of flavours such as cumin and black pepper. They can be fried, grilled and baked.

Currently sold at the Badial food store in Handsworth (89p per pack) and outlets in Leicester and London, Pragini are hoping shoppers will soon be able to buy their snacks from supermarkets too.

* Last week's Food Hero Carol Byrne's organic fruit and veg stall can be found at the Bull Ring Outdoor Market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
