LOCAL food hero Sukhdev Singh Bath began his working life in textiles.

But when the industry went into decline in the 1990s, he decided to team up with his brother Balwinder and father Chanan to go into the food business.

Balwinder and Chanan had the perfect qualifications - they both worked at a local bakery and as a child Balwinder helped his father in a family flour mill.

The trio opened a small bakery of their own in Friar Park Road, Wednesbury, and began producing cakes, cookies and muffins inspired by recipes their mothers and grandmothers used.

Their venture proved a winning combination and this summer Perfection Foods is set to double its workforce and move to a purpose built bakery at Walsall Enterprise Park.

Asda is also planning to stock their products from this month.

Sukhdev says: "It's a tough business. When we started it was just the three of us and we were working 14 and 15 hour days.

"But if you are willing to put in the effort this shows you can make it a success.

"It's brilliant that the quality of our products is being recognised. "Expanding will help us create more jobs in the local community, too."
