Of all the little oranges (collectively known as mandarins) that appear at this time of year, clementines have the best, most intense flavour – and are less likely than most to contain pips.
They are often the best looking as well; tautly spherical with a bright orange skin.
As such, they are perfect for hassle-free desserts: try serving them on an elegant plate with nuts, soft Medjool dates or little sweets such as Turkish Delight. You can also turn them into a sublime preserve by cooking them whole in spiced brandy syrup or using their fragrant juice to make jelly.
