THERE will be a strong presence from the Assay Office at the event. Curator Sally explains: “There are two parts to the business, the statutory and non-statutory part. The first is the hallmarking of precious metals. From next year we will be marking palladium, making sure it meets the correct requirements.
“Our non-statutory side of the business includes valuations, safety testing and melting down precious metals for companies that offer a ‘cash for your gold’ service.
“We also have a gemologist to certify stones.”
THE RETAILER
NAME: Elaine Green
FROM: SP Green
AS WELL as offering a bespoke jewellery service for couples after engagement and wedding rings, SP Green is also manufacturing creations by fashion designer Osman Yousefzada.
The business has been in the Jewellery Quarter for four generations of the family.
THE DESIGNER
NAME: Kerry O’Connor
FROM: Design Space
KERRY works as a mentor to aspiring designers who join the Design Space programme. She helps to manage them, as well as advising them about the business and how to go about showcasing and exhibiting their pieces.
The latest batch, who have a number of awards under their belts, will show off some of their unique pieces at the Style event.
“There’s an unusual collection of jewellery which come in various metals,” Kerry reveals.
“The designs will be unveiled at Style in the City.”
The talented creators are finishing at the Design Space which will be at the show recruiting for new staff.
“We will be on hand to offer advice to people who want to get into the industry,” Kerry adds.
