NORMAL lessons were put on hold for kids at a Black Country school when they took part in a two-day cycling proficiency course.
Year 6 pupils from St John Bosco Primary School, in West Bromwich, were given expert tuition from two cycling instructors which began with advice about cycle maintenance.
They were then taken through the basics of the Highway Code before a short practical session on the school’s playground.
The group of 19 youngsters were then ready to hit the road for a day-and-a-half of intense lessons.
Teacher Paul Mobberley said: “The children were taught a range of skills during their rides and were being constantly assessed in their proficiency in skills and safety issues.
“This was made even more difficult with the poor weather conditions they had to put up with.
‘‘At the end of the two days everyone was delighted the whole group had gained their Bikeability badge.”
