WITH Steven Spielberg’s War Horse movie opening today, where better to try than a Hungry Horse pub.
Especially as the Hunters Moon has only just re-opened after a complete transformation.
Greene King has done a good job fitting out what has always been a landmark pub in a great position.
It has a vast car park and lots of tables.
Architecturally, it will always be a hotchpotch. But no matter if you feel as hungry as the proverbial horse.
It was a good job we arrived by 12.15pm as there was a positive stampede once we’d ordered.
The blue rinse brigade was especially prevalent – always a good sign for a friendly atmosphere and value.
The horse theme threw me out of the saddle when we sat down on some very upright chairs.
More comfortable than they looked, their black and white hide appearance made me think of zebras (because they are horse-like, I suppose).
But since there wasn’t a stripe in sight it only dawned on me later that the chair covers were, of course, representing cows (albeit I’ve never seen a heifer sporting such small and uniform black patches on them).
