A 4x4 with perky performance, good economy and anytime all wheel drive
VOLKSWAGEN is aiming to achieve the best of all worlds with the latest version of its Tiguan 4x4.
It features a new twolitre engine that endows it with an unlikely combination of perky performance, impressive economy and the added bonus of anytime all wheel drive.
The unit is a turbodiesel pumping out 170bhp of power and 258lb/ft of pulling power to endow the Tiguan with hot-hatch acceleration to 60mph in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 125mph.
Average economy is claimed to be 40mpg and the CO2 figure is an environmentally friendly 185g/km.
This means that it should be economical to run and will incur minimal tax charges for a vehicle of its size and potency. There is a six-speed manual transmission that sends power to all four wheels when needed or indeed to just one if it is the only one with any grip.
Standard kit includes half a dozen air bags, electronic stability programme, semi-automatic air conditioning and a sophisticated touch-screen entertainment system with a six-disc CD autochanger.
The newcomer comes in SE guise at £22,670 or Sport at £23,370.
