Barcelona Bugatti is a hit

THE so-called Barcelona Bugatti is proving to be a sell-out following its appearance at the British Motor Show and now the company which makes the car is looking for dealers to market it throughout the UK.

The Spanish-made Aspid, which scorches to 60mph in a F1-style time of less than three seconds, was developed in secret over a period of five years before making its global debut a couple of weeks ago. Now the company says that hundreds of orders have been placed for the two models, costing £75,000 and £107,000 so a weekend of fly-drives is being staged on the mountain roads near to Barcelona where the car has been developed and tested.

Potential punters will be able to put the cars through their paces before deciding whether to use them for racing or everyday driving on public roads.

The unique selling of the Aspid is that the cars can switch from road to track without any of the modifications that have to be carried out on virtually every other car to make them road-legal.

Powered by a supercharged two-litre engine sending 400bhp to the rear wheels, the lightweight aluminium and carbon-fibre newcomer can scorch to 60mph in just 2.8 seconds. It is said to be so strong that it does not need a roll cage and is to be hand built at the rate of just 50 a year initially.

The two-seater sports car will also be offered with a standard two-litre engine developing 270bhp.

Both engines will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission with limited-slip differential and in the case of the supercharged version there is an awesome power to weight ratio of 570bhp per tonne.

The designers say that the dynamics of the car are so good that it can generate 1.6G of lateral force when cornering yet still stick to the road and it can come to a dramatic halt from 100mph in just three seconds.

Many of the buyers are likely to be from the UK so the company says it is now inviting dealers to apply for the franchise here.
