Little one Getz replaced
HYUNDAI has revealed the replacement for its Getz supermini, which will be seen for the first time at next month’s Paris Motor Show.
Following the company’s new naming system, it will be called the Hyundai i20 and will line up alongside the i10 and i30 models early next year.
The stylish new five-door hatchback has a longer wheelbase than the Getz and features Hyundai’s trademark chrome-topped grille and teardrop headlamps at the front plus stacked light clusters at the rear.
There will also be a green version of the newcomer with the all-important official CO2 figure of below 100g/km.
Modifications to achieve this include full-length under floor covers, a 15mm reduction in ground clearance, changes to the front and rear aerodynamics, low-rolling resistance tyres and low-friction engine oil. The i20 ‘i-blue concept’ is fitted with Hyundai’s 1.4-litre CRDi diesel engine, which produces 90bhp.
It uses a six-speed manual gearbox instead of the car’s usual five-speed unit, which collectively results in a CO2 output of just 99g/km and an official economy figure of 68mpg – putting it out of current car tax charges for private buyers.
Hyundai will also be showing a new petrol/electric hybrid version of its Santa Fe model, which mates the 2.4-litre petrol engine to a six-speed automatic transmission and a 30kW electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries. This achieves a CO2 figure of just 148g/km and an official economy figure of 44mpg.
The company will also be displaying its new ix55 sports utility vehicle but that is not due to be sold in the UK.
