Learners take illegal route

MORE than eight out of ten young learner drivers think insurance companies charge too much to add their names to their parents’ car policies.

Firms are charging inexperienced 17-year-olds from £2,000 to £5,000, claims specialist insurer Young Marmalade. “The result is 300,000 UK learners drive illegally each year – an horrific situation in terms of road safety,” says the firm which gives learners cover in their name from £90 monthly.
