Folk stars heading for Beverley

FESTIVAL fever is set to sweep the elegant medieval town of Beverley as folk music, shanties and even puppets combine with boutique shops and cosmopolitan cafes to create a feast of short break ideas.

Under the shadow of the beautiful Minster, 2008 will see Beverley in East Yorkshire become a festival hub with events celebrating everything from folk, to food.

Highlight of the entertainment feast is the 25th anniversary Folk Festival (June 20-22) a mix of breathtaking roots, world and acoustic music, dance, comedy and family events.

But this year the town hosts no fewer than 10 different festivals.

And with new short break suggestions on offer from Visit Hull & East Yorkshire, Beverley provides the perfect backdrop for a weekend away.

Renowned for its historical architecture, picturesque racecourse and traditional tearooms, Beverley is also home to cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants that come alive as thriving bars in the evening.

For its 25th anniversary, this year's Folk Festival boasts top music acts including Chumbawamba, Martin Simpson, the Buzzcocks and internationally acclaimed violin player Tasmin Little, left, making this year's line-up one of the best yet.
