Trust helped us out in our darkest hour

BLUES goalie Colin Doyle and his wife Becky were left devastated when their seven-week-old son Liam was struck down with bacterial meningitis earlier this year.

The couple feared the worst and in their time of heart-break they found out about the Meningitis Trust, which provides a lifeline to 20,000 people every year whose lives have been torn apart by the disease.

It also tries to prevent the devastation meningitis can bring by highlighting awareness of the symptoms.

After being left “overwhelmed” by the charity’s work, the Doyles said it was an “honour” to be at the Birmingham Mail’s Local Heroes Awards 2010 to hand a gong to the organisation for its work.
