Awards for work

ACCORD Housing Association has been awarded for its pioneering work in going green.

The Birmingham and Black Country-based housing association has been praised for minimising the environmental initiatives including creating a waste composter in an office, using bio-degradable cleaning products in its offices and reducing water use during its landscaping.

Head of Environ ment and Sustainability Paul Di Mambro said: "We are striving to be the greenest housing association in the UK.

"We already measure our carbon emissions annually.

"And we are also busy building ground-breaking new eco homes and trying to reduce the carbon footprint of our existing housing."

To secure the eco mark Accord developed a Environmental Management System. This was audited by Bureau Veritas Certification UK Ltd who then awarded the Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001.
