Girls were innocent partygoers

Charlene Ellis (top) and Letisha Shakespeare

CHARLENE Ellis and Letisha Shakespeare were murdered outside a New Year party in Aston in the early hours of January 2, 2003.

The girls were shot dead - innocent victims caught up in a bloody feud between two notorious street gangs.

They were chatting outside the Uniseven hair salon, in Aston, when they were hit by gunfire from two men in a car. Sophie Ellis and her cousin Cheryl Shaw were wounded.

Four men were later sentenced to a total of 132 years in jail after a six-month trial at Leicester Crown Court. Last week they lost appeals against conviction.
