Fundraising Harry Moseley is a true Local Hero

Harry Moseley before his latest round of treatment

AN INSPIRATIONAL youngster who has helped to raise more than half a million pounds despite suffering from a serious brain tumour has been made a Birmingham Mail Local Hero.

Doctors will never be able to completely remove the tumour which is deep inside Harry Moseley’s brain but this has not stopped the 11-year-old from trying to improve the lives of other people with his condition.

Since he was first diagnosed and started treatment at the age of just seven, Harry has been determined to raise money by selling hand-made bracelets and giving talks at companies and schools.

However, just three weeks ago doctors found out that Harry’s tumour had grown and in the past two weeks he has twice had to have major surgery, and although stable he is still in a serious life-threatening condition in hospital.

Despite this Harry’s mum Georgina said he had remained positive even going into his most recent operation.

Just before his surgery the Sheldon-born lad wrote on his Twitter page: “To all my fab twitfam. I love you loads and after today’s over with I’ll soon be back to helping others. I’m going to miss you all loads.”

The brave youngster has had brain surgery twice in the last three weeks and hasn’t woken up since his last operation more than 14 days ago.

Georgina said: “He’s very positive. He never lets anything hold him back. Just a few weeks ago he travelled all the way up to Darlington to give a speech to help raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK.”

Last year Harry was voted Britain’s Kindest Kid. He has also attracted the attention of celebrities Ben Shepherd, Frank Lampard and Seve Ballasteros as well as Richard Branson who is waiting until Harry is better to call him to pledge his support to his campaign.

A campaign has also started to get Harry honoured on Birmingham’s Walk of Stars on Broad Street.

Jo Blythin, marketing manager at Local Heroes sponsors The Pallasades, said: “The example that Harry is setting is phenomenal.

“For someone so young, facing so much, to despite all still spend time and energy raising money for Cancer Research UK, is awe inspiring.

“Everyone at The Pallasades wishes him well – he is a true Local Hero.”
