Woman dies after car flips over

The crash on Lozells Road which killed the driver of the car

A WOMAN driver was killed when her car ploughed into railings and ended up on its roof in Birmingham today.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene of the accident, which happened in George Street, Lozells, near to the junction with Lozells Road, shortly after 3am.

The blue-coloured car careered into railings outside the New Testament Church of God before ending up on its roof.

Three passengers escaped with minor injuries.

Firefighters from Handsworth were called to help release the woman from the car, but she is understood to have died on impact.

Police sealed off the immediate area as part of their investigation.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said they were still investigating the cause of the accident, but added that only one vehicle was involved.

She said: "The car involved has left the road, but we are currently looking into the reasons why. Tragically, the female driver has been declared dead at the scene."

The spokesman added: "There were also three passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident. They sustained only minor injuries and have received treatment."
