Fire probe as girl fights for her life

A FIVE-year-old girl was fighting for life today and six others were injured following a suspected arson attack at a Birmingham house.

The child suffered severe burns and had to be rescued by firefighters from the house in Bayswater Road, Birchfield, Aston, last night. She was today critically ill in Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Six other people suffering from minor burns fled from the house as fire crews arrived at 11.50pm.

Aston Fire Station sub officer David Edge said: "It was a severe house fire and when we got there smoke was coming from all of the windows.

"Both floors were involved and most of the family had managed to get out. We got the young girl and she was taken to hospital. She suffered burn injuries.

"The fire is thought to be suspicious and is now being investigated by the police and fire investigation."
