Taser used on shooting suspect

A SUSPECT wanted for the shootings of four innocent people was arrested after police used a 50,000 volt stun-gun during a swoop at Birmingham New Street Station.

Two platforms were sealed off as armed officers approached a man and woman wanted on suspicion of attempted murder as they were about to board a train.

Passengers were ushered away from the area as police moved into detain the pair amid fears one of them may have been armed.

The Taser was used when one of the suspects failed to respond to police warnings.

A man of 27 and 21-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and were today still being held at an undisclosed police station in the city.

The pair were arrested in connection with the shooting of two security guards outside the Kanye West concert at the NEC in Solihull in February.

The man will also be quizzed over the attempted murders of Delroy Blackwood and his son Ricardo in Coplow Street, Ladywood, on Tuesday morning.

Up to a dozen armed officers were involved in the operation at lunchtime yesterday. A number of screens were erected to stop train passengers seeing the drama. The closure effected the Cross City central lines to Lichfield, Erdington and Sutton Coldfield. The platforms were re-opened 90 minutes after the incident.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "A Taser was used during the arrest. Nobody was injured in the incident."
