M6 slip road set to re-open

A MOTORWAY slip road reopens on Monday, offering relief to thousands of commuters delayed in roadworks on the M6.

The Highways Agency is opening the slip road at Spaghetti Junction from the Aston Expressway on to the M6 southbound.

The route has been closed while workers resurface the motorway to overcome problems with potholes.

This should speed up the evening rush hour and speed up homeward journeys for city centre commuters.

Sarah Churchill, of the Highways Agency, said: "As part of our commitment to motorists we were determined to complete this phase as quickly as possible and reopen the out-of-city slip road by early September.

"The contractors have worked around the clock and, with careful planning, by looking out lane layout and prioritising the repair work we have managed to achieve this date."

Ms Churchill added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank motorists for their ongoing co-operation during these vital repair works."

The inbound slip road, leading from the M6 northbound on to the Aston Expressway towards Birmingham city centre, will remain closed until December while repair work continues.

Repair work continues on the M6 southbound between junction 6 (Spaghetti Junction) and 5 (Castle Bromwich); and northbound between junctions 8 (Ray Hall interchange) and 9 (Wednesbury).

The slip road from Junction 9 on to M6 southbound will be closed until spring 2007.
